Navigation: Thoughts to Clearing Mental Fatigue Through Diet + Faith

Life be lifin' – A phrase I use that encapsulates the unpredictable, often challenging journey we all navigate. There are seasons in life that feel like a relentless storm, testing our resilience + patience. It's during these times that we seek wisdom + deliverance, often through prayer and/or conversations with those whom you trust, hoping for a reprieve from the chaos. Yet, as we're reminded in James 1:5, "....wisdom comes generously from God to those who ask". But it's seldom delivered in the package we expect. [See: #ShutUp]

One aspect of our lives that can significantly influence our mental clarity and ability to cope with stress is our diet. An article from Outside Online delves into the concept of banishing brain fatigue through dietary adjustments. It's a perspective that aligns with the idea of holistic well-being – where physical health intertwines with spiritual and mental wellness. This is a perspective to which I whole-heartedly subscribe.

The article suggests that certain foods can exacerbate brain fog, a condition characterized by confusion, forgetfulness, and a lack of focus. Entrepreneurs know this condition all too well. Whole days (weeks even) could be a wash simply because we didn't make time to reset and ate crap along the way. This fatigue or fog can be a significant hindrance. The solution? Fine-tuning our diet to include brain-boosting foods while eliminating those that cloud our mental skies.

Incorporating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins can be a game-changer. These nutrients are known for their brain-enhancing properties, improving cognitive function and overall brain health. On the flip side, reducing intake of processed foods, sugars, and certain fats can help clear the mental fog, allowing for better focus and decision-making.

Here's a quick list of my faves that fit the bill: Salmon: High in omega-3 fatty acids, great for brain health. 🍣

Blueberries: Known for their antioxidant properties. 🫐

Spinach: Loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. 🥬

Flaxseeds: A good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Avocado: High in healthy fats and vitamins E and C. 🥑

Dark Chocolate: Contains antioxidants and several brain-boosting compounds. 🍫

Broccoli: High in antioxidants and vitamin K. 🥦

Chia Seeds: Packed with omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. Great in a sugar-free Greek yogurt.

Strawberries: Full of antioxidants and vitamin C. 🍓

Eggs: Contain choline, which is beneficial for brain health. 🥚

Kale: High in various antioxidants and vitamins. 🥬

Oranges: Excellent source of vitamin C. 🍊

Turmeric: Known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Green Tea: Contains antioxidants and L-theanine, which can enhance brain function. 🫖

Sweet Potatoes: High in antioxidants and vitamins. 🍠

Brussels Sprouts: Rich in antioxidants, vitamins K and C.

But it's not just about what we eat bro. It's also about nurturing our spiritual health as well. In times of stress and confusion, turning to our faith can provide unparalleled strength and clarity. It's about finding that quiet space where we can connect with God, listen for His guidance, + find peace amidst the chaos. What are some specific things you do to set the atmosphere in your home, work, + mental spaces? Do you have a favorite prayer on deck for times of turbulence?

As we journey through life's ups and downs, let's remember to nourish both our bodies and our spirits; it's a full circle situation. And in those moments of stillness, let's listen for the voice of guidance, ready to lead us through the storms - mind, body, + soul. Embrace this journey with an open heart and a nourished mind, and let your ventures flourish under the guidance of wisdom and wellness.

peace + love
